Honoring the end of a century of classic Interurban street running

More than one hundred years of interurban street running down 11th Street in Michigan City IN came to an end this past Monday 2/28/22 as the South Shore stopped running its passenger trains to begin construction of a double track private right of way through Michigan City. Bustitution will be deployed between Porter IN and the east side of Michigan City for the next 1-2 years as the double tracking is implemented.

On this sultry summer day in 1969, a throng of passengers is boarding a two car westbound train at Franklin St intersection with 11th Street. It looks like they're being corralled into the trailing air conditioned car but I'd rather ride in #1 with window wide open.
