P&L 1590 at Elm Street in Lakeport NH (Laconia)

This is the third time in 2022, the crossing lights turned on at Elm Street in Lakeport. The Winnipesaukee Scenic Crew brought 1590 and 3 demotorized Budd RDC's to the historic Laconia Passenger Station. Scenic train rides were offered from there, for several miles south along Lake Winnisquam and back as part of the NH Pumpkin Festival Celebration in Downtown Laconia. Train rides were offered hourly from 11 to 3, with a 4pm ride added due to popular demand! The new Lakeport Landing Marina showroom is on the left with the Lakeport Freight House, and Lakeport Draw Bridge behind the train.

The three paint matching Budds were: RDC-9 #6921 and RDC-1 #6105, feature the comfortable high back blue vinyl seats that have both B&M and MBTA heritage, and RDC-1 #9159 former Reading and MBTA which was converted to a table car. Since there is no runaround track, #9159 is equipped to lead the push backs north. No o[operator controls, but has headlamps, bells, and horn.

P&L 1590 is probably one a very few SW1001's not being used for industrial switching purposes. It was built for the Reading in 1973, was folded into Conrail, then Norfolk Southern, then sold to CIT Group, as leaser. 1590 arrived in the fall of 2015 with CIT paint and a very overachieving set of white hazard stripes on the nose and cab. In Winter of 2021, 1590 was repainted into the Plymouth & Lincoln's maroon, silver, and black paint.

Sounded like the rides were a huge success, as rare mileage excursions are never a trick, but always a treat around Halloween !
