Photo of Burlington Railyard
Burlington Railyard

The Burlington Railyard is situated close to the shores of Lake Champlain in quite this happening city. The Burlington Bikeway offers Rail Buffs great & safe views of the yard. It was pretty much all quiet on Saturday (10/23) with GMTX 318, the MP15AC, cab end switcher, being used as the Burlington Switcher, finishing up, as cars were getting moved around some.

There was a lot of "Red" showing in the yard from this view, aside from GMTX 318. Also in view is the front of VTR 311, the VTR 50th Anniversary engine, very much out-of-service, VTR 201 is by the roundhouse, and CLP 802 is to the left, obscured by a tree branch, also looking very much out-of-service.

Soon downtown Burlington will be served by Amtrak's Ethan Allen Express with the route being extended north from Rutland. This will be one of two Amtrak routes that will serve Chittenden County, with the Vermonter running out of St. Albans, south to Essex Junction, to WRJ and points beyond. Both trains will get riders to, at least, Penn Station in New York City. Yet, if you are in Manchester NH, in the much more populous Hillsborough County, your wait to take a train to Boston will be a very long one, as restoring passenger train service has not proceeded much beyond the 'talk and study, and talk some more' phase..

As Arte Johnson used to say, "Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry Interrrrrrrrresting"..
