Photo of P&L 1590 by Appleton Street in Laconia
P&L 1590 by Appleton Street in Laconia

Here's to the new look of P&L 1590, painted last winter in the Lincoln Shops along with the newly acquired P&L 105. The CIT blue paint and the overachieving hazard stripes have made way for the Hobo/Winnipesaukee Scenic's colors of dark red, silver, and black.

This time of year, bus tour groups fills those seats, and the guests are usually treated to a tasty feast from the legendary Hart's Turkey Farm, in addition to their very scenic ride along the western side of Lake Winnipesaukee south into Paugus Bay.

This is by the Appleton Street Crossing in Laconia, where the train will head just a bit further south to the Lakeport runaround track, before pushing north to Meredith. (No runaround today!)

P&L 1590 is a SW1001, originally built in 1973 for the Reading. It went to Conrail, Norfolk Southern, to the CIT Group, where it was sold to the Plymouth & Lincoln around 2015. The Budd RDC-1 behind 1590 also has Reading heritage, #9151.

Sorry no foliage yet, this scene looks great when that happens !
