Conrail rarities at Rochester

One of 25 ex-NYC Alco RS32 units and an ex-NYC RS3, now EMD powered RS3m idle at Mortimer Jct near Rochester in March 1979. PC/Conrail rebuilt around 50 RS3s into 1200hp rated "Dewitt Geeps" at the Dewitt NY shops in the early '70s, installing single 567 prime movers from retired E8s. CR 2035 still soldiers on today for Falls Road RR (parent is Genesee Valley Transportation) in their much more attractive livery but the RS3m apparently isn't among the living (although many such units still exist at museums and shortlines).

Photographed by John Barlow, March, 1979.
Added to the photo archive by John Barlow, August 17, 2020.
Railroad: Conrail.
