PLL 1012 by the Ashland Freight HouseThis was it, the last Fall Foliage Special of the 2019 season from the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. 11 of these specials ran during the peak foliage season and offered riders a very picturesque journey from Meredith station north to New Hampton, Ashland, Bridgewater, and Plymouth. If the views weren't enough, riders enjoyed a delicious turkey buffet lunch at the Common Man Inn. The ride back offered a stop and tour of the Historic Ashland Passenger Station, and guests were greeted by people dressed in late 19th century attire.
Here was the Fall Foliage Special, as they passed the restored Ashland Freight House, now an art gallery. SW1000, PLL 1012 is formerly BN owned, and is used as the main road power for trains out of Meredith. When this train goes north, the local southbound Lake Shore train was powered by SW1001 #1590.
Riders were offered traveling choices from Presidential Class and First Class in the privately owned Pullman cars, (with very clean windows, I heard) and Coach seating aboard the non-powered former B&M and MBTA restored Budd RDC-1 and RDC-9 Coaches.
