These Are Times That Try Towermen's Souls

The B&M Wreck at Ayer on February 18, 1968. took a chunk out of then active Ayer Tower. The train order signal mast, another casualty, has been taken out of the way. Two employees were in the tower at the time of the wreck. They can be thankful that the tower was built so sturdily. Maybe the saying "built like a brick....." should be changed to "signal tower".You can make out the repaired brickwork on the (now unoccupied) tower to this day.
