Photo of AP-3 at Somerville Junction
AP-3 at Somerville Junction

Three Boston & Maine GP9s ease train AP-3 off the Lowell mainline and onto the Hill Crossing Freight Cutoff at Somerville Junction. Train AP-3 and flip side AP-4 were the last through freights between Boston and Mechanicville. Within a year or two the freight cutoff via Davis Square would be abandoned due to Red Line construction.
