Charging out of Vancouver

Amtrak "Cascades" #506 highballs out of Vancouver, Wash. with new Siemens SC-44 #1401 trailing the TALGO consist.

Washington State DOT purchased 8 Chargers as part of a larger order for the unit that also went to Caltrans for "San Joaquin" and "Capitols" service and to Illinois DOT for Amtrak regional services out of Chicago.

One of the eight WSDOT Chargers, #1402, was wrecked in the derailment of "Cascades" #501 Dec. 18, 2017. The train was the first revenue Amtrak train over the Point Defiance Bypass south of Tacoma when it derailed on an overpass at Dupont, Wash.
