Adams Branch local

Penn Central RS3 5230 heads up the weekday Pittsfield-Adams local northbound at Lanesboro, MA. In PC days the Adams-North Adams portion of this branch saw no regular service since there were no customers north of Adams, but when the Boston & Maine took over in 1981 the B&M began operating it from the North Adams end. This trackage south of Adams was later abandoned.

The abandoned track is now the very scenic 11 mile Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, stretching from Berkshire Mall in Lanesborough to the center of Adams.
