Photo of cleaning up after a bad one
cleaning up after a bad one

Former New Haven RS-11 1410 in fading paint is in charge of the wreck train at Springdale, CT, on the New Canaan Branch as a steam derrick hidden behind the trees cleans up the aftermath of a tragic head-on collision of MU trains that killed four and injured others. The collision was the result of human error when a northbound train failed to take a siding as directed by train order and hit a southbound deadhead move that it was supposed to meet there.
