Now abandoned portion of B&ML grade at MP 1.3 looking westbound

View looking westbound at MP 1.3 of the now abandoned two-and-a-half mile portion (MP 0 to 2.5) of the 144-year old grade of the Belfast & Moosehead Lake Railroad in Waldo County, Maine, between MP 1.0 and 2.4. This portion, which is now owned by the City of Belfast, is being "railbanked" and the tracks are scheduled to be pulled up this fall and replaced by a bike and running trail. All of the track consists of 75lb rail laid down by the Maine Central Railroad while it operated the line under lease as its Belfast Branch between 1871 and 1926 replacing the lighter "Welsh" pear rail used in its original construction between 1868 and 1870. Most of the current rail is branded as having been rolled between 1896 and 1909.
