U&D Trestle Abutment at Kaaterskill (Laurel House), NY

These massive footings and abutment once carried the U&D over Lake Creek and on to its final destination of Kaaterskill, NY, which was only about a mile from this location. The Laurel House Hotel was located at this site and had its own station stop, as well as a spectacular view of Kaaterskill Falls. The U&D was abandoned in 1940 and the Laurel House was abandoned and burned in 1967. The photo was taken on Saturday, 10/02/2010.
