Catskill and Tannersville RR Trestle Site at Kaaterskill, NY

This view looks east at the Catskill and Tannersville RR trestle site towards Kaaterskill, NY and is located at the site of the Laurel House hotel. The Laurel House was constructed on top of Kaaterskill Falls, which is a spectacular two-tiered waterfall that drops a total of 260 feet - the highest waterfall in New York State! The Catskill and Tannersville was constructed to compete with the Ulster & Delaware for the lucrative tourist traffic into the Catskills. Sadly, the C&T was abandoned in 1918 as vacationers left the Catskills in favor of western locations such as the Grand Canyon and Yosemite. Photo taken on Thursday, 10/29/2009
