Ulster and Delaware Bridge Abutments at Edgewood, NY

These bridge abutments belonged to the Ulster & Delaware/New York Central Kaaterskill Branch and are located in Edgewood, NY. The Kaaterskill Branch left the U&D main line at Phoenicia, NY and ran to Kaaterskill, with a short branch to Hunter. The U&D main line ran between Kingston and Oneonta, NY. The branch was used mostly for summer tourists to the Catskills. The U&D was taken over by the NYC in 1932 and the Kaaterskill Branch was abandoned and torn up in 1940. Surprisingly, most of the U&D main line survived until late 1976 and even saw a few months of Conrail ownership before being abandoned.
