The Delaware & Ulster Railroad, Arkville, NY 1988

D & U 6/5/88. Arkville, NY. Action photo of the train crew in action. Flags are often used for hand signals, especially with longer trains. Radio communications are SOP (Standard Operation Procedure) with trains approaching two miles long. D & U Engine 5106 has just passed the conductors position. Note the conductors handhold of the handrail. Not the Selkirk Yard, NY, when one may have to hold both hand rails - and - get your feet moving ! Trainman/brakeman is at the far end. Note the engineer looking for hand signal. Engine headed east at Arkville Station, NY.

Photographed by David Benkart, Jr., June 5, 1988.
