Highmount, New York, East View (MP 41.4)

Looking at the eastern run-around switch at Highmount, New York. This is the eastern limit of the Delaware & Ulster Railride. East of this location is the Catskill Mountain Railroad leading to Phoenicia and Kingston, New York. A severe washout at Phoenicia has prevented operation of this 15 mile segment of the former Ulster & Delaware. However, there are plans to open the tracks to Pine Hill, New York, 1.7 miles distant, to speeder traffic later this year, once the light overgrowth has been cleared. This will be the first traffic on this section of the line since 1976.
