Photo of Massachusetts Central Rail Trail
Massachusetts Central Rail Trail

It's a great day to walk the Massachusetts Central Railtrail at Oakdale, MA. This was the site of Oakdale Station that served both the Worcester, Nashua and Portland (north and south) and Central Massachusetts (east and west.) [Actually the station was in the Little League ballfield about a quarter mile to the right of this photo.]The Central Massachusetts was constructed here in 1867 and eventually linked Boston and Northampton. In 1903 the Wachusett Reservoir forced the Central Massachusetts to enter the WN&P here to be rerouted into Clinton. This part of the Central was abandoned in 1938 after severe hurricane damage. I last walked this rail trail in 1997.
