Former B&M 1127 SW1 @ Canaan CT

The former B&M 1127 lives on at the Danbury Railroad Museum. A herculean, 11th hour, effort was made to save this very notable piece of B&M history from getting scrapped. The stories about how this was saved are out there, and they are worth a read. The Luzerne & Susquahanna owned the SW1 for many years.

The 1127 was displayed at Canaan Railroad Days. and the key people involved with saving this 1953 built SW1 were on hand to tell the story, offer cab tours, celebrate 1127's preservation, and future plans.

The Picture Taker knew this engine spent time based in Concord NH, but didn't know how much. A bit of research found numerous well documented pictures of the 1127 in Concord, by Laconia Station, other places along the White Mountain Branch. Even such places as rolling over the upside down Sulphite Bridge, and the Franklin trestle on the Franklin & Tilton branch. Both of those structures survive to this day, while the Franklin trestle will be restored, the Sulphite Bridge remains in a derelict state.

Also what made the 1127 unique, it was the only one in the B&M SW1 fleet that could be MUed with other engines. 1127 survived into the Guilford era before getting sold off in the 1980's.

The 3 Roger Williams cars spent years at the Hobo RR in Lincoln NH, where they were restored inside & out, and maintained. They were moved to the Berkshire Scenic RR Museum in Lenox MA in August of 2023. The 140 cab car on the other end was open for tours. The interior was somewhat different than your average Budd RDC. The 2 cab cars run.

This event is well worth the road trip !
