Photo of Southbound from South Station
Southbound from South Station

E-8s are now standard diesel power between Boston and New Haven where they will replaced with GG-1s to bring their trains to New York and Washington. Here Penn Central E-8 #4279 snakes through the track maze at South Station passing by the tower and under Signal Bridge #7. First car in tow is a SCL car along with other cars never seen before in New Haven days, when the only "exotic" cars were the ones running through from the PRR. This same train had a Northern Pacific car on the tail end.

Fantastic photo! I don't even know if you could stand in that location today, but if you can you would probably be shot at sunrise - or sooner!
