Photo of Whitefield, NH
Whitefield, NH

The ball signal at the crossing of the Boston & Maine and Maine Central Railroads in Whitefield NH.

The obituary for rail service in Whitefield proper was almost written, until Vermont Rail System announced their plans for reactivation. The B&M line on the left has rails still in place down to Wing Road. I believe the plan here is for car storage and potential future use. The MEC line to the right of the ball signal leads to St Johnsbury, VT, with VRS in the process of reactivating this trackage that hasn't seen a train since the 1990s. How they will connect the MEC to the B&M line here remains to be seen, but nice to see there will be resurgance in rail traffic through here again in a few years. Hopefully they're successful with drumming up new business.
