North Canaan Railroad Days 2025There were lots of sights to take in at the North Canaan Railroad Days celebration last weekend by the 1872 built historic Canaan Union Depot. The depot itself is quite a sight, being the largest Victorian designed railroad station in the US.
On the right is the specially designed penultimate FL9 built, NH 2058, which is also the penultimate domestic built F-Unit ever built connected to the three surviving cars of the Roger Williams Budd RDC set. For many years the three Roger Williams cars sat miles away from Canaan being well cared for in Lincoln NH. They began their move out of New Hampshire just over 2 years ago to the Berkshire Scenic's RR Museum in Lenox, MA. RDC-A NH140 and 141 and RDC-B 162, all built in 1957 exclusively for the New Haven. The Roger Williams cab cars are fully operational and can run under their own power.
On the left, the Housatonic RR, which has a yard and shops nearby, was showing off their new power. HRRC 3902 & 3901, former BNSF units that have a GP35 carbody and rebuilt to GP39M standards under the hood. They also showed off one of 3 GP15-1's, their ALCO RS3m and a caboose.
This was a fantastic event !
