Photo of Amtrak MOW Caboose #14001
Amtrak MOW Caboose #14001

Amtrak 14001 has a personal connection to me, it currently lives as "the little red caboose" of my town. I'll detail its history in this description.
She was built 09/1923 in the Pennsy's Altoona Works as PRR 477413. Assigned to the Bedford-Pittsburgh line as of 1957. in 1968, she became PC 19019, where she served faithfully until 1975 when Amtrak purchased ~13 old PC cabooses for use on MoW trains. She was numbered 14001 under Amtrak. She originally wore the early PC Green patchjob, but as seen in this photo was later repainted to Pumpkin Orange. She was purchased from Amtrak by her current owner sometime in the late 80s to early 90s, where she was moved to my town for static display, and lives on today.

Photographed by John C. Benson, January 1, 1982.
Added to the photo archive by Matthew Juergens, April 11, 2025.
Railroad: Amtrak/MOW.
