The Balls are in Vermont Rail System's Court ;-)

There's tracks under that snow, and plenty of evidence of the progress the Vermont Rail System people are making in breathing new life into these dormant rails.

Behind the Ball Signal, evidence of clearing out the former Maine Central Mountain Division that was choked in weeds and brush. Vermont Rail System acquired New Hampshire Central and their operating leases in 2024. Progress is being made to develop new business on the branch from Groveton to Whitefield with their connection to the St. Lawrence & Atlantic, owned by G&W. VRS has assigned a dedicated switcher to the Groveton Branch.

There's been articles across local media, YouTube videos and more, releasing information of what Vermont Rail System is planning. The first steps are restoring service on the State of NH owned line from Whitefield to Gilman VT, and clearing the remains of the B&M White Mountains Line to Bethlehem to the end at Wing Road. Dormant and deactivated railroad crossing signals now have new small blue FRA crossing ID signs, even at crossings with the rails paved over.

Hopefully soon, perhaps the historic ball signals guarding the diamond, will see some meaningful if not symbolic use..Two Balls raised allows MEC Trains to pass over the B&M, One Ball raised allows B&M trains over the MEC..

The Balls are in VRS's Court, and they are running with it !
