CSRX 255 @ CrawfordsThe last scheduled "Winter @ Crawford" excursion train ran Saturday, Feb 22. Here was the Conway Scenic Crew aligning the west runaround track switch back to the main. The 255 would runaround 5 coaches, including a dome car. There were no shortage of blue skies, hikers, and snow at Crawford Notch.
CSRX 255 still wears it's Clarendon & Pittsford, Vermont Rail System red paint. No mistaking a bright red painted locomotive in the winter scenery, perhaps an intentional and logical move with all the people that flock to this part of NH for winter recreation that occur close to these rails.
Conway Scenic 255 was built new in late 1966, as Maine Central 255. In 1991, Guilford Rail System sold the 255 to Vermont Rail System, assigned it to their Clarendon and Pittsford division as their 203. The 203 was named for Harold Filskov, one of the founders of Vermont Rail System.
In mid 2021, the Conway Scenic acquired CLP 203, and renumbered the straight GP38 back to it's original 255.
We hope the inaugural season of the Winter at Crawford trains were a success, no one can complain they didn't see enough of the 'winter' part of things.
