NYS&W 142 (2-8-2) and C&O 614 (4-8-4) team up to lead an NJ Transit fall foliage excursion, normally handled by just the 614, from Port Jervis to Hudson Jct, where the 142 was cut off and delivered to homer rails on the former Lehigh & Hudson River, now part of the Susquehanna as far into New York state as Hudson Jct. on the former Erie Graham Line. The 142 had been delivered here to Port Jervis by a Susquehanna road freight. It was to be used to handle competing Susquehanna excurisons in New Jersey on following weekends. Both sets of steam locomotive owners recognized a good show when it presented itself, and agreed to work the 2 engines in tandem out of Port Jervis. The exhaust here from the 2 stacks says a whole lot about which locomotive is doing most of the work.
