Amtrak Testing a Prototype for Possible Local Corridor Service?

AMTK 268 (F40PH) leads a westbound train approaching Kingston Station, RI on track 2 while a Hi-Rail school bus, testing as a prototype for local service to the tiny hamlets dotting the Northeast Corridor in this area, stands idle on track 1. Ultimately the program failed to bear fruit, as the residents of such small places as Slocum, RI or Shannock, RI showed no interest in the uncomfortable accomodations and Amtrak was forced to use these vehicles to transport track gangs to remote work sites from locations where they could park their vehicles for the day.
