The station that never saw a single train!Dartmouth station was built in 1864 by the Dartmouth & Torbay Railway, in readiness for when the line reached there. In the event, for a number of reasons, the line failed to materialise, and ended up about 300 yards away, across the river Dart estuary (behind the building) in Kingswear. The building served as a ticket office until 1972, when its final railway owner, British Railways closed it. Since then it has become a popular restaurant/cafe.
