C&O 614 Rounding Rundles Curve East of Port Jervis, NYC&O 614 (4-8-4) leads another of the NJ Transit June, 1997 excursions home from Port Jervis as it rounds Rundles Curve a short walk east from Black Rock Cut, seen in my previous photo. I remember hearing or reading an interesting piece of Rundles Curve history before I visitied on this day. Sometime back in the ago of iced reefers the Erie apparently derailed a train including some meat reefers as it rounded Rundles Curve, presumably eastbound. By the time the clean up crews were able to reach the meat reefers, the meat (and the cars themselves) were well beyond recovery, and the remains were buried by filling in the inside of the curve. I could find no evidence of this as I stood on the fill inside the curve this day, and I cannot find confirmation on line, but it's too good a tale not to repeat here.
