NJT 1477 (GE Arrow III MU) brings its train to a stop on Track 2 in front of the former DL&W Dover station at the end of the former DL&W electrified territory. If I am remembering correctly, the track to the right of the train was known as the wall track. Dover had a very unusually located tower when I qualified here back in 1964; it was across the street behind the concrete wall on the near side of the house visible there, located where the brush is growing today. As I recall, it was a wood frame structure, unlike the surviving substantial structure in Deville, 1 station east.
The interlocking machine had strong-arm levers, but thankfully they were connected to electric controls rather than a pipeline to control the switches, which all had electric motors.
Today the switch here and in Denville are controlled by the NJT dispatchers.
The wires over tracks 1 and 2 extend far enough west of the crossovers west of Dover station that the longest MU trains can run straight into Dover, head west after unloading their last patrons, then back thru the west crossovers to the wall track should they be ready for yarding for the night.
If I am remembering correctly again, some of the shorter mid-day trains crossed over to the wall track coming into Dover and laid over along the wall, rather than on track 2, as this train will do.
