Christmas Budd #9154 at the Hobo Railroad

Self propelled Budd RDC coaches once ruled the B&M rails, and were used for commuter services out of both North and South Stations in Boston for years. As age and engine reliability caught up to most of the Budds in the late 1970's, their self propelled days were over and a locomotive on the end of a consist became a common sight.

The Hobo and Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroads are home to several former MBTA Budd cars, that serve as coaches or table cars and have maintained their classic look with stainless steel exteriors with refurbished interiors.

Here is the inside of RDC-1 #9154, in perfect condition, showing off the Christmas look, as these trains are used for the Hobo Railroad's "Santa Express" and their leased "Journey to the North Pole" trains after sunset. This was taken at "North Pole Station" while happy guests were attending a special show at the North Pole with Santa, Santa's Elves, and Friends.

#9154 is a former Reading RDC-1 that was sold to the MBTA. This train featured three former Reading and one former Boston & Maine RDC-1's. The two "First Class" coaches were former Lackawana Pullman 1930's coaches converted into dining cars. Those pictured comfortable seats still flip perfectly to face either direction with ease.
