Boston and Maine is still presiding over MBTA Commuter Rail operation and was probably the most resourceful operator of the commuter rail system. Here are a couple of examples of acquired "heritage" equipment. GP-9 #1923 has come from the Burlington Northern and still has the original owner's colors. Not hiding its heritage is the first RDC unit with its original Reading railroad markings that somehow mostly survived intact since the Reading's 1976 takeover by Conrail and subsequent operation of their commuter rail by SEPTA. The passengers are "taking a ride on the Reading" at Ayer station.
