UP Centennials in Wyoming

Photo was snapped out of the family car window somewhere around Sherman Hill Wyoming in the summer of 1970. We were on vacation from upstate NY traveling between Colorado and Yellowstone National Park. The DD40AX units were new and impressive to someone who had previously seen EL SD45s as the biggest locomotive of the era. And apparently 13 DD40AX's survive, including an operational unit saved by UP as part of its heritage fleet.

Photographed by John Barlow, 1970.
Added to the photo archive by John Barlow, December 17, 2019.
Railroad: Union Pacific.
