Power For The Grade

Solid lashups of 4-axle B&M and even EMD power will soon be a thing of the past. The GP-9s are serving more on switcher and local freight duties.Six axle power will become much more common later in the decade. Here B&M GP-38s and 40sare pulling their train up the first major prolonged grade on their westward journey across northern Massachusetts. We are beside the Nashua River in Shirley near a place the crews call Mitchelville between Walker Road and Patterson Road crossings.
