The day before (Saturday) another main line steam excursion, over some of the lines we were about to run on, left a series of lineside fires. So, Network Rail imposed a blanket ban on steam locos working hard. Meaning there has to a diesel loco in front, doing all the work.
Thus for The Torbay Express, Gresley A4 class Pacific 60009 "Union of South Africa" was there in body, though not spirit!
