Boston & New York RPO

Railway Post Office Routes were rapidly disappearing from the land, furthering the demise of passenger trains before Amtrak. The New Haven still had the Boston & New York RPO and understandably did not want to invest any more than it had to in its aging RPO fleet. It therefore leased some of these big substantial ex Pennsy cars, one of which is shown here in South Station Boston.
