Photo of very early Amtrak
very early Amtrak

Amtrak was just two months old and nothing had changed yet on the Shore Line when this train of Penn Central equipment powered by an E8 approached the stop at Old Saybrook, CT, on a summer afternoon. The three car consist points to this era as the low point for passenger traffic on the Northeast Corridor.
