Winnipesaukee Scenic's Final Fall Foliage Special

The southbound trip for the WSRR's Fall Foliage Special headed south on Sunday 10/21 from the Common Man Inn just up the tracks in Plymouth.

Here their four coach train led by SW1000 #1012 passed by this unique and intact semaphore signal along side Routes 3 and 25 just north of Downtown Plymouth. The destination of this train was Meredith with a stop at the very Historic Ashland Train Station.

This Fall Foliage Special runs only nine times a year over the Meredith to Plymouth segment, their trains run all season long from Meredith to Lakeport and back.

THE SIGNAL IS LISTED IN THE TIMETABLE AS DECORATION ONLY. TO THE LEFT OF SIGNAL THE ORIGINAL TRACKS WENT TO WOODSVILLE AND EVENTUALLY MONTREAL.. #1012 IS ON THE FIRST 100 FEET OF THE LINCOLN BRANCH. MILEPOSTS ARE MEASURED FROM PLYMOUTH ALL THE WAY TO MP 21 LOCATED BEHIND THE MCDONALDS ON ROUTE 104 IN LINCOLN, NH. PEDESTRIAN CROSSING UNDER THE TRAILING WHEELS IS WHERE THE OLD ROUTE THREE CROSSED AT GRADE.

George, I learned the C and P Mile Posts from some of the great people I know that work at the Railroad! When I was following this train, and I photographed it on two different runs, I was trying to figure out where the original rails took the left turn to Woodsville and I did not notice any evidence. I thought that signal was so unique that it was worth getting into a picture. I very much appreciate your information and feedback ! Jay
