train watching at Milldale

Back when it was common for kids to hang around railroad stations to watch the action, local boys supervise the crew of New Haven local freight NX-18 as they switch at Milldale, CT, on the Canal Line. This branch is now a rail trail but the station survives as a museum.

Great shot! I lived across the street from the NYC Valley Branch station in North Warren, PA. Loved watching locals and through trains there.

However, one thing in this shot I doubt anyone misses — foot boards, the bane of the switchman ('s feet and legs)!
