Photo of Hartford RS3
Hartford RS3

I had a special fondness for the New Haven's Alco RS3s since when I was growing up they were the regular freight power on the line through my hometown. Its work done for the day, the 543 posed outside the Hartford enginehouse during the NH's final summer.

Evocative photo! Had the same sentiment in Owego, NY in the '60s, where LV RS2 / RS3 locomotives regularly worked the Auburn branch between Sayre and points north of Owego and east to the D&H connection at Binghamton. Plus there were regular visits from EL and D&H RS engines.
