Just in time for Fall Foliage

Locomotive number 1590 is the newest addition to the Hobo &
Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad's motive power roster. Originally built
for the Reading Company in November of 1973, this 1000 Horsepower unit
worked for Conrail and Norfolk Southern before being acquired by
locomotive leasing company CIT Group in 2011. After being shipped from
Wisconsin to New Hampshire, the locomotive was serviced in Lincoln, NH,
in preparation for the railroad's upcoming fall foliage season.
Interestingly, this SW1001 locomotive may be the very first of its type
to be used in tourist/excursion railroad service. Although
Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors built 230 of this model
between 1968 and 1986, most remain active in freight or industrial
service.
