Visitor Comments about this Photo:Bruce, this excellent photo you posted last September showed up on NERAIL in the upper right hand corner as the "Hourly Random Photo" early this morning. When I first saw this photo, I didn't know where in Binghamton this photo was taken nor did I understand what the ex-BN and NYS&W diesels were doing in the background. But I think I finally figured it out and there's quite a back story to this photo: Apparently the two Guilford units have just brought a port of New Jersey bound double stack train (perhaps a Sea Land train?) in from Buffalo (where Guilford picked it up from the B&O) to hand off to the NYS&W for transit down the ex-Erie main via Port Jervis. As Conrail would not permit engine swap on the ex-Erie main at Binghamton, GRS pulled the train off the ex-Erie main up to north end of Bevier St yard on Guilford/D&H track (where this photo was taken) so that the two Guilford engines could be replaced by the NYS&W set. Once the engine swap was finished, NYS&W would back the lengthy train out on the Conrail main at QD and proceed east to New Jersey. Thanks for posting this provocative photo!
