It's not all gone quite yet

This railroad police warning is still located along the former Portsmouth and Dover railroad right of way. Obviously the sign's heritage is from much later, after the line became a spur and after Guilford purchased the Boston & Maine. Near this location is the bridge that carried the rails over the Cochecho River south, originally to Newington and Portsmouth.

I wish someone had photos of the line in use, or of the bridge that once crossed from Dover Point to Newington. There are a couple of photos on NERAIL of trains in the early 90's parked on the spur, but were likely taken after the last customer on the line was discontinued.
