1966 New Haven RR West Roxbury Wreck The front end of New Haven Railroad RDC # 41 as it sits following the wreck on the New Haven's Needham Branch in 1966. The RDC train was heading inbound towards South Station at speed near Gardner Street in West Roxbury with about six miles remaining in it's trip, when it suddenly and unexpectedly went off on a diverging siding at a switch. Unknown to the engineer, malicious individuals had thrown the switch at this location causing the cars to derail and Number 41 to overturn. Numerous injuries resulted. Photographed by Paul Joyce, 1966. Added to the photo archive by Paul Joyce, March 2, 2009. Railroad: New Haven.» Contact the person who posted this photograph.
