Dunderberg Spiral Railway, Upper Plane, Jones Point, NY This is the base of the Upper Inclined Plane of the Dunderberg Spiral Railway. The grade begins immediately beyond the fallen tree in the foreground. The Lower Inclined Plane would have crossed over just behind the photographer and perpendicular to the Upper Plane. At that point, cars would have traversed a loop that would have brought them around in nearly a full circle to this point to begin the ascent of the Upper Inclined Plane. Upon reaching the top of the Upper Inclined Plane, cars would then have begun their downhill run to the bottom - a distance of over 13 miles! Photographed by Rich Kugel, January 5, 2008. Added to the photo archive by Rich Kugel, April 1, 2008. Railroad: Dunderberg Spiral Railway. » Contact the person who posted this photograph.
