O&W Bridge Abutment at Crystal Run, NY

This O&W abutment once supported a bridge that spanned Slaughter Road in Crystal Run, NY (I'm certain there's a fascinating story out there as to how the road got its name). Until very recently (2007?), both abutments and the steel bridge deck for one of the tracks were still in place. Regrettably, urban sprawl has caught up with this part of Orange County. Out of view to the left, a contractor has levelled the entire area for development and this O&W bridge was an unfortunate casualty. In the early 2000's, I videotaped many O&W artifacts for posterity. Now that I am returning five years later, I am astounded at how much has disappeared. Lesson to be learned: Do NOT take anything for granted!
