Mount Beacon Inclined Railway, Beacon, NY

The Mount Beacon Inclined Railway opened on May 30, 1902 and climbed on a grade up to 65% to the top of Mount Beacon at 1,539 feet above sea level. It was the steepest inclined railway in the world. The railway was closed in 1975 and destroyed by fire in 1983, though there is hope of restoring it.
