F40PH, Re-incarnated...

Amtrak #90340 is one of six former F40PH locomotives (#230, #250, #251, #252, and #253 are the others) that shed their previous "coats of many colors" (and sacrificed their prime movers and traction motors) to become cab cars in Amtrak's "Cascades" service in the Pacific Northwest.

Unlike previous F40 conversions, these six did not get the roll-up baggage car doors in the carbody, since their Talgo trainsets include baggage space. The 90340 is also the only one of the six that retained its underbody equipment; the others have cosmetic skirting in place of their fuel tanks.

The 90340 is shown leading "Cascades" #507 through southeast Portland, Ore. shortly after leaving Portland Union Station on its way to Eugene.
