Abandoned

The decades-old Newburyport Branch tracks in Lynnfield, Mass. haven't had a train since 2001, aren't in any shape to support one, and are rapidly becoming claimed by nature. The towns of Lynnfield and Wakefield would like to make the route into a trail. It would cross some of the most scenic, wildlife-filled territory in Boston's suburbs. Issues of the track ownership, maintenance of the trail, and law enforcement in its isolated areas are all delaying the trail's creation.
