A princess in happier days.

Beautiful Canadian Pacific G5 #1278 at Steamtown in fall of 1983. The trim Pacific was still being used for excusion service, though on this day she was sleeping. #1278 later went to Scranton, then to the Gettysburg Railroad. In 1995, #1278's crownsheet ruptured due to low water level in the boiler. The resulting blowdown into the firebox seriously injured the three employees in the cab, and the Pacific was sidelined until being purchased by the Ohio Central, where she resides today. It's unclear if she'll be used as a parts-source for sister #1293, or whether she'll be restored.

Photographed by Mike Chapman, September, 1983.
Added to the photo archive by Michael Chapman, February 28, 2005.
